Enjoy the sunshine – help protect our green spaces

Dear Resident, 

With the sun out and warmer days ahead, many of us are keen to get outdoors for picnics, walks or a BBQ. We want everyone to enjoy the sunshine safely, while also protecting our green spaces, wildlife and local communities from fire. 

Even small actions can prevent serious fires. 

How you can help reduce fire risk 

🗑️ Always bin your litter or take it home 
🚭 Fully extinguish cigarettes and dispose of them safely 
🔥 Never use BBQs or light campfires in parks, fields or open spaces 

Disposable BBQs and open flames can easily ignite dry grass and cause fires that spread quickly. 

If you see a fire 

📞 Call 999 immediately – don’t try to tackle the fire yourself 

📍 Use the what3words app to give your exact location 
 

Planning a BBQ at home? 

✅ Set it up on a flat, non-flammable surface 
✅ Keep it well away from sheds, trees and shrubs 
✅ Keep children, pets and games clear of the area 
✅ Have water or sand nearby, just in case 
✅ Allow the BBQ to cool completely before disposing of it

Out and about? 

Leave the BBQ at home, disposable BBQs can spark fires and seriously harm wildlife.
